My First Yudu in 18 months!

I did a spot of Yudu'ing today. It took me 1 hour and a half to dig it out from under the loft bed in the spare room from behind the golf clubs and boxes. But now it is taking pride and place again on the dining table - where it should be!

I made my little boy Max a very cool T-Shirt - simple but i think it looks super cool. I just used the template method - not a properly exposed screen. I just cut out the letters from some sticker and stuck it on the back of the screen. So it's a genuine "One-Off" design!
You can see here the sticker stuck on the reverse of the screen IMPORTANT NOTE: when you do it this way you need to reverse the design (yep i forgot the first time and had to recut it! It's be a while!)
I put on the paint - i did it long ways. And there you go! When he wakes up tomorrow morning i will whack it on him and take another photo!

Screen Printing at Home

Adventures of Bee Girl

I tried Screenprinting at home on Sunday for the first time using a screen and squeegee purchase at my Screen Printing workshop. I used some discarded sticker vinyl (that would have just gone in the bin!) to cut out my design i doodled at work. I based the layout on the pieces i am going to cut out to make a purse from Nicole M Design.

The fabric i used is by Ryan McKenna, the Blues and Greens is called "Into the Woods" i thought it was perfect because it looks like a landscape. Check out some of his other Batik fabrics, there are some beautiful ones here.

Prints Drying

I stuck down the fabric with tape. Which worked well, but next time i will create a padded base so the screen can sit as close as possible to the fabric. I used a glass table so i think the surface was a bit hard.
Also the screen printing ink i used, Hydrotec, doesn't seem as flexible when dry as the Permaset ink i used at the workshop. I just bought it coz the shop down the road had some, when i get time i will drive to Gabba Screenprinting Supplies in the city and buy some Permaset.

Overall i am pretty happy with my first try. I think "Bee Girl" maybe going on some more adventures to different locations :-)

Screen Printing Workshop

Windy Daze printed on fabric..(anyone know the name i have forgotton)

On Saturday i had my screen printing workshop at Thea and Sami. It was AWESOME!! Above is my Windy Daze design i blogged about on friday, i am so happy how my design turned out.

This was my first simple design i did, cut out of paper. Then i cut out one a little more complicated, with an art nouveau theme. I am glad i spent the time on Friday (at work...shhhh!) working out what i was going to do otherwise i think my brain would have exploded under the pressure.

And then we printed! and i printed and printed and printed.

I then cut out my Windy Daze picture out of vinyl and printed it on some hirts and some japanese fabric. SOOOO HAPPY!! The feeling you get when you lift off the screen and your image is just sitting there - all crisp and unsmudged is so satisfying.

The other guys in the class were so friendly and very creative.

Emma free hand drew some clouds and the coolest looking afro dude... in two different styles, very funky :-)

Emma's Mum, Lynne drew a cute little squirrel and some little ducks.

Celena, who just happened to be the model out of the Special K advertisements, traced some lips and a face.

Mental note - never have a photo taken next to a model EVER again... it's depressing.
Can't half tell she know how to stand the right way when getting a picture taken!!

Overall my haul at the end of the day was massive!! I now have my own screen and a squegee, so i now have a new obsession, which can be combined with my sewing obsession - how handy. When screenprinting with the stencil technique, in contrast to getting screened exposed and all that bizo, it is very cost effective too. The prints then become very Limited Edition because you only get that exact print for that one day!


So i can highly recommend the workshops at Thea and Sami in Capalaba, Queensland. Great price, very informative and lots of fun!!

Now... what am i going to make with that fabric....mmmm.
