My Creative Space - I GIVE UP!!

This week, as usual i have a range of projects happening.

After two more attempts at making a purse with a PVC Plastic overlay, i have HAD ENOUGH! It annoys me coz i can't get it looking nice when it is all turned out. So after 3 needles breaking from hitting a zip ( i always get scared they are going to flick up and impale me in the eye) and constant resewing, i have admitted defeat and moved on.

A little Stamp Maths....

A bit of Japaneesey goodness, that are going to be turned out into more pendants, i have sold all but two left in my shop, originally i made around 30, mainly through friends, but they are still sales i say!

And lastly, an introduction to my Lucky Kitty, i bought her in Singapore last year. She helps keep the good luck on my sewing table, maybe that is why i haven't been impaled in the eye with a broken sewing needle yet?

Have a happy day everyone and go to Kootoyoo for more My Creative Spaces.

(God i can't wait to get a proper camera)

EXTRA EXTRA - i forgot to add in a pickie of my Finished Worlds Coolest Skirt, my post is here..

oh io hate working with plastic too -I've got the same "poke me in the eye" fear! I've been known to wear sunnies when I sew with it ;)

i have needle fears as well.

i've yet to try to sew with pvc. I think you've put me off, I get that fear of needle impalement as well. they break in chenille quite a bit!

I love your stamp maths :)
I know what you mean about those needles! Obviously I don't know what I'm talking about because it happens to me too ;) BUT maybe it needs a particular kind of needle? A 'Jeans' or 'Leather' one perhaps?
Just a thought... I hate seeing such a gorgeous project go to waste! :) K

Great skirt - when I get a waist, I can't wait to get back into skirt making... 7 or so weeks for the bump to go...

I love the fabric! I have admitted defeat many a time and I'm okay with my failures. :)

Totally loving your world's coolest skirt!! How's your hubby's comment - boys! I'd love to make a skirt with a contrasting panel like this, but maybe going all the way to the hem. Panels... hmm... maybe not up for that just yet.

Love your stamping. Did you carve them yourself?

Yes!!Awesome skirt! How inspiring, I love it.
So do you use a non-sitck foot for sewing with plastic? I like the idea but it looks a little complicated for the likes of moi...

Hi Kellie, yep i did carve them myself :-) I'm new to it, but i am getting better!

Lovely stamps - you are very clever!

I have sewn with a bit of PVC and found a leather needle and either my teflon or walking foott worked very well (the walking foot was better where there were lots of layers). Have broken plenty of needles but not on the PVC yet - touch wood! Someone also mentioned to me once, that in industry PVC is sandwiched in tissue paper to make it more manageable while sewing. You just tear it away at the end.

A broken needle hit me an inch away from my eye last week! I got so scared! Glad your lucky kitty is working for you ;-)

From where I'm standing, those PVC purses look fab - but you have also scared the bejesus out of me and as I won't be rushing to try them myself!

I wonder if u should also be using yr zip foot as well........nikki suggests that and thats how I make my makeup bags. that way u can get close in but not hit the zip

Those purses look good to me! Don't you just hate snapping needles? I still find zips a bit fiddly so I can imagine that zips and pvc would make matters even trickier. Love the pendants, stamps, kitty and skirt - gorgeous post all round. :-)

Last week I was sewing with PVC and it was a nightmare and I broke 2 needles until I switched to a leather needle. I am always scared I am going to get a piece of needle in the eye as well. I will be avoiding PVC from now on!
