"Just Over the Horizon" - My Quilted Design

3 Days and Counting till my day at the Stitches and Craft Show! Two Cheese Please and Dear Fii have given us a sneak peek this morning.

This is my new creation. What do you think?

It isn't finished yet ("thank god" i hear you gasp..) but these are the pieces i have cut out, pressed and put together roughly. Now i need to work out how to sew them together. The main bit I don't know is how to attach the rounded shapes (grass and sun), should i hand sew them or should i just top stitch them on? Can anybody help?

I am then going to back it and do some free motion sewing over the water and sun rays, should be interesting!

First i drew up a rough design in Illustrator and then i printed it out and cut up the pieces, it's the first time i have done anything like this...

It is going to make a 8" x 10" piece of art for a swap that i am in, but i am also making one for a very special lady that put up with me in her belly for 9 months.... ssssshhh dont tell anyone! I have made it for her desk at work. She is retiring at the end of the year and is finding it hard sticking it out tell then, as she works with the spawn of the devil. So hopefully she will be able to look at it and know that a new part of her life is "Just over the horizon"...

What are you giving your Mum for Mothers Day?

Curves are tricky if you're sewing them in like regular straight-edge patchwork pieces so, because I'm a giant chicken (I guess you are what you eat!) I just applique them on using a tiny hidden stitch. Just turn the edges under like with needle-turn applique and go for it!
